Dina Lenkovic

Surrealist artist Dina Lenkovic was born in Zagreb in 1951.She enrolled in the Faculty of Philosophy at Zagreb University, with ethnology and philosophy majors, graduating in 1976. That same year she started having private lessons at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, with Marin Tartaglia (who taught her from 1976 to 1979).Dina Lenkovic did further studies in Stockholm in 1984, at the Kunst Akademi and Balet Akademi (drawing in the classical ballet class).From 1985 to 2000 she kept up numerous contacts with representatives of the Vienna school of fantastic realism. She visited the private studios of artists A. Brauer, R. Hausner, E. Fuchs, F. Luby and R. Ederer . From 1986 to 1987 she created the print portfolio Reflections (containing the artist's drawings and poetry).

In 1995, at the instigation of Janko Kichl, an exhibition on the topic of Swan Lake was held in the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. While the exhibition was on, the ballet Swan Lake was featured in the CNT repertoire, and a poster for the performance was also printed for the occasion. In 1997, made a poster for the opera Aida performed in the CNT.
In 1999 the Soho Fine Arts Institute, Broadway, New York, awarded Dina a second prize. She was awarded a prize for the exhibition 100 Sacred Visions in Payerbach, Austria; the panel of judges included Ernst Fuchs, Philip Rubinov Jackson and Peter Pasa.
In 2000 she exhibited at the collective show the Art of Imagination, Mall Galleries, London.
In 2001 she showed at a collective exhibition of fantastic and visionary art in the Orange Regional Gallery (NSW, Australia).
In 2003 the Williamsburg Art and Historical Centre (Broadway, New York) held one of the biggest exhibitions of the fantastic and surrealism in contemporary artistic trends in the last 10 years entitled Brave Destiny, at which Dina exhibited as a member of the Society for Art of Imagination. Her picture was used for the title of the book Tempting Disaster (published by Raw Dog Screaming Press, Hyattsville, MD, ed. John Edward Lawson, 2005); the book included pieces of writing by 23 avant-garde American writers. The subject of one of the collective shows of the Society for Art of Imagination in Lauderdale House in London in 2005 was Water, with Dina showing two pictures devoted to imaginings of water. From 2003 to 2005 she did a cycle of works devoted to sea-sirens and the sea. This resulted in a graphic portfolio (silkscreens) entitled Aquamarine, with eight prints, text by Dina Lenkovic, in Croatian and English.
In 2005 the journal FEMSPEC, an interdisciplinary women's periodical devoted to creative works of fantasy, magic realism, surrealism, myth, folklore and other supernatural genres printed on its cover (Vol VI, 2, 2005) a Dina Lenkovic work entitled City in flames.
2008 year is published Dina Lenkovic book of her art written by Silvano Levy and contribution Stanko Spoljaric. Book is hardcover with 160 pages with numerous colour reproductions.
